We are looking for a Veterinary Assistant to care for animals and support our technicians and veterinarians. You’ll play an important role in bringing comfort to our furry patients and ensuring efficient workflow within our facility. One of the most important Veterinary Assistant responsibilities is to ensure all areas are clean, for animals and humans alike. We’ll rely on you to assist our technicians with appointments and patient care. Do you love animals? Then you’re halfway there. You need the ability to care for them properly – that’s one of the most important Vet Assistant job requirements. This includes knowledge of routine tasks, like feeding or bathing animals, but also readiness to care for injured or scared animals. If you’re organized, quick on your feet and a team player, we’d like to meet you.
Responsibilities
Assisting Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians with patient care.
Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications at the direction of the veterinarian and help maintain the electronic medical record.
Assist in taking radiographs and ultrasounds
Keep patients clean, watered, and fed (when indicated and directed by veterinarian), safely walk canine patients when necessary.
Record and report vitals of hospitalized and surgical patients
Care of hospitalized and surgical patients as needed
Keep hospital neat and clean; perform regular cleaning based on necessity as well as based on pre-determined maintenance schedule.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be compassionate and sympathetic, and be able to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
Must be able to provide quality customer service to the client.
Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments.
Willingness to work with both cats and dogs.
Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 40 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time
Basic computer skills; experience with electronic medical record software a plus.
High school diploma required.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $13.00 - $16.00 per hour
